Fresh movement on the Active Rock side this week, with new singles landing, albums arriving, and a few names setting up the next push.
The board is moving and a few fresh cuts are already knocking at the door. Coming out of the weekend of August 14, Active Rock has new singles in play, a couple of album drops worth watching, and more music lining up for the next round of spins.
On the charts
The current Active Rock lane still runs through familiar heavy hitters, with songs from names like Shinedown, Volbeat, Ghost, Pop Evil, Mammoth, Halestorm and Papa Roach all sitting in the recent Mediabase year-end mix and continuing to frame what stations are leaning on now. That tells you the lane is still built on proven momentum, but the door stays open when a new record lands with a real hook.
That is why every fresh add matters right now. When a new single comes in clean and fast, it does not take long before you hear it move from test spins into regular rotation.
New today
Saliva is back in the conversation with Breaking Through, out August 14, and that gives the format a full set of fresh material to work with. “Longshot,” featuring Johnny Van Zant, is already out there, and “Edge Of A Knife” has also been part of the lead-in, so this one arrives with more than one way onto the air.
Marilyn Manson also drops One Assassination Under God – Chapter 2 on August 14. Whether stations go deep on it or stay selective, it is one of the bigger hard-rock release points hitting this week.

If you are listening for newer titles that feel built for a first punch at Active Rock, Greta Van Fleet is worth watching with “Saw You Stand,” which was set to arrive July 31 and is still fresh enough to be part of the current conversation. It has that kind of timing where a late-summer drop can start showing up more often in the next stretch of programming.
Saliva also stays in that just-landed pocket. Between “Longshot” and the album release, they have the kind of multi-track presence that can turn one release week into a longer run on the air.
Album drops
Last week brought a few more rock and metal releases that could spill into specialty shows and overnight rotation, including Tim Montana’s Entire State of Tim Montana on August 7. This week’s August 14 list also includes new releases from Nestor and Raunchy, alongside the Manson record, giving programmers a little more fresh inventory than usual for mid-August.
Coming up
The next couple of Fridays are already loaded. Loudwire’s current release calendar shows August 21 with Weezer on deck, plus more heavy titles arriving the same day, and August 28 lining up releases from Mastodon, Airbourne and Russian Circles.
So here is the short version: this week belongs to fresh product and early traction. Saliva has the cleanest immediate Active Rock angle, Greta Van Fleet stays in the new-single lane, and the next two Fridays are stacked enough that stations will not be short on choices.
