HARDY

Learning to scream is one of the many things Hardy gets to do when he lets his rock flag fly. When he and Brock are not exchanging fishing stories they also talk about him growing up a with a rock n roll dad, song writing and Hardy's new release "the mockingbird and THE CROW." Do their wives bait their own hooks?  What really happens in an ice shanty?  These questions and  more will be answered on this episode of DNM.

This San Diego metal three piece has gone around the world to get these new songs made.  They explain how bartering their carpentry skills lead them to not only build, but be the first and last people to record in a brand new California studio.  What now?  Well they packed up and went to Asia. A journey that ended up leading them to finally discover their true sound.

What is QUOR? Something you should hear.A loud difference of styles and dynamics thatfollow no rules of the metal/rock/punk

Will you find yourself uttering a line or two caught deep inside your head? Where will it take you? The answer is yours but the outcome is always the same.By listening to QUOR, you will arrive into awe-someness. Bold, but true.

Sleeping With Sirens

Lead Singer and Keyboardist Kellin Quinn discusses how wanting to have some more high energy songs to play live effected their mindset going in to create their latest release "Complete Collapse."  What does Spencer from Under Oath, Betty White and LA Guns have in common?  Besides coming up at various times in this interview, not much.  But they do come up in this episode of JJO Discover New Music.

Sleeping With Sirens breathe rarified air. After fourteen years, five studio albums, and thousands of shows, the band has outlasted many of their peers while crafting an undeniably unique path through modern alternative rock. With each release, the quintet — Kellin Quinn [vocals, keyboards], Jack Fowler [lead guitar], Nick Martin [rhythm guitar], Justin Hills [bass], and Matty Best [drums] - continue to hone their mix of unflinchingly honest lyricism, unforgettable riffs, and pulse-pounding percussion while boldly exploring new creative frontiers. That future-forward perspective, coupled with a deep connection to listeners, has established Sleeping With Sirens as a beacon of hope in a world desperate to find silver linings.

On Complete Collapse, the band’s sixth studio album, Sleeping With Sirens cut straight to the bone, as they process life in modern times. “We’re coming to terms with the new reality we are in,” explains Quinn. “Things have changed so rapidly, and we’re all doing our best to process it. There’s a feeling of heaviness to the record, both in sound and emotion. We’re trying to figure out what’s going on and where we’re going. We’ve seen so much stagnation, but also a lot of change that wasn’t necessarily for the better. We’re realizing now that our voice, and what we’re able to say or should say, needs to come through the music. It’s not about what you can say on Instagram or Twitter, it’s about what you’re saying through your work.”

Helping the band amplify their voice and bring Complete Collapse to life is a murderer’s row of guest appearances from alternative rock’s brightest stars and the next generation of talent. Spencer Chamberlain from Underoath appears on the lead single, “Crosses,” which tackles themes of identity and self-confidence. Elsewhere on the record, Charlotte Sands appears on “Let You Down,” singer-songwriter Royal & The Serpent joins “Be Happy,” and Dorothy lends her incredible voice to the romantic anthem “Us.”

“We’ve never been a group that did a lot of features in the past, and that’s honestly because I hated giving parts away. But for this record, it started with “Be Happy.” Once we heard Royal & The Serpent on it, that opened the door for us, and it became a baseball card collection type thing for us. We started thinking about who we would love to have on a song, and Spencer from Underoath was one of the first that came to mind. Charlotte Sands has been a fan for a long time and we always talked about working together, so I reached out on Twitter and asked her to participate. She crushed it.”

Also contributing to Sleeping With Sirens’ ongoing evolution is the band’s continuing focus on storytelling. More than any other album in the group’s catalog, Complete Collapse revels in its narratives, especially those that connect with stories and themes from previous releases. “Family Tree,” for example, features lyrical and thematic references to “A Trophy Father’s Trophy Son” from 2011’s Let’s Cheers To This.

“This record bridges the gap between our first and last records,” says Quinn. “I think our longtime fans will experience a lot of “a-ha” moments while listening to the record because we specifically added to give our fans something they’ve been asking to do for a while.”

He continues, “We touched a lot of bases on this record. We touch on family issues, anger, and depression. “Be Happy” is a perfect example. You can have everything you want, but we’re still unhappy. We have filters on our phones to make us beautiful, but they don’t make us feel good. We do things to make ourselves look or seem like someone else, but we must learn to accept and be ourselves.”

Now that the album is complete Sleeping with Sirens is looking to the future. “I think this is a stepping stone album for us,” says Quinn. “We’ve been exploring what the band can sound like moving forward, but we are making an effort to let our fans know we won’t abandon the things they’ve come to expect. If a song like “Us” takes off, that may open new doors for us, but if something more familiar like “Control+Alt+Delete” works, we’ll pursue that. After fourteen years, we want to be a band people respect, and I think we’re well on our way.”

DISTURBED – DIVISIVE BIO

As much as the world pulls us apart, music draws us back together. It can close the gap between even the widest fissure. Disturbed continue to unify audiences around heavy and hypnotic hard rock anthems underpinned by guttural grooves, incendiary riffs, and chaotically catchy vocals. The two-time GRAMMY® Award-nominated multiplatinum Chicago quartet—David Draiman [vocals], Dan Donegan [guitar, programming], Mike Wengren [drums], and John Moyer [bass]—make the kind of music that pushes you to hold on tighter, fight harder, and persevere forever. It’s why they’ve quietly claimed a place at the forefront of 21st century rock with record-breaking success, sales of over 17 million-plus units, nearly 8 billion streams, and sold out shows around the globe.

It’s also why they hit harder than ever on their eighth full-length offering, Divisive [Reprise Records].

“Partisan tribal warfare has become a part of our regular existence nowadays,” observes David. “It’s one big battle of the cliques. The whole idea of the record is to be a wakeup call for everyone. Our society has become addicted to outrage. Music is the best cure for what ails us though. If only everyone reached out and used it. There’s no better environment to forget about all of this shit than live music. We can be together and realize we have more in common than not. Recognize what’s happening and let’s make a change for the better.”

“Whatever it takes, we’ve got to pull it together,” agrees Dan. “We’ve always tried to take negative topics and spin them in a positive light. From touring around the world, we’ve seen the power of music as the universal language to bring everyone together from all walks of life. We can still play songs to unite people, and it’s a pretty powerful feeling.”

Speaking of unity, the musicians subconsciously rallied around a shared vision for what would become Divisive. After a period of dormancy in the midst of the Global Pandemic, the group finally congregated in early 2022. Dealing with the same frustrations for nearly two years, the guys followed a collective muse without question.

“We wanted to get heavy again,” exclaims Dan. “We’ll always be melodic, but there’s more attitude now. We’re showcasing David’s animalistic side again. It touches on our early days with modern elements.”

David adds, “After 25 years, we’ve begun to anticipate each other’s direction. We were all hankering to get back to chunky goodness,” he laughs.

“We have a lot left in us,” concludes Dan. “I know for certain I’m not done. We’re always going to need an outlet for our personal sanity. I feel inspired every time we do a record. We bring the best out of one another. I’m just excited for what the future holds.”

David leaves off, “When audiences hear the album, I hope the reaction is, ‘After the last three years, this is exactly what I wanted to get out the frustration, anger, and addiction to outrage’. There are better ways. I hope you use it as an outlet and a means of exorcising the demons once again.” – Rick Florino, September 2022

Nickelback

1970s custom vans, prison and metric beer conversions are just a few of the topics covered when Brock and Lead Singer Chad Kroeger get together to talk about the band's new album "Get Rollin'".  Believe it or not, they do actually get to talking about it.  And since local slang UK style went horribly wrong with Architects last week, why not do it again only this time Canadian style?

Since forming in Alberta, Canada in 1995, the globally celebrated, multi-platinum rock band Nickelback have cemented themselves as one of the most commercially viable and important acts of the past two decades. Nickelback’s success includes worldwide sales of more than 50-million units, solidifying their status as one of the top-selling acts of all time and the second best-selling foreign act in the U.S., in the 2000’s decade, behind only The Beatles. Their inescapable and irresistible smash “How You Remind Me” was named Billboard’s ‘Top Rock Song of the Decade’. It was the number-one most played song on U.S. radio (any format) in the 2000’s decade according to Neilsen Soundscan, being spun over 1.2 million times. Nickelback’s album All The Right Reasons was Diamond Certified (10-million copies sold) by the RIAA, in 2018, and has currently sold more than 13-million units in the U.S. and 19-million units worldwide. Amongst all these accolades, they’ve also been named Billboard’s “Top Rock Group of the Decade”, and they have received a staggering nine Grammy Award nominations, three American Music Awards, a World Music Award, a People’s Choice Award, twelve JUNO Awards, seven MuchMusic Video Awards, and have been inducted into Canada’s Walk of Fame (2007). With more than 23 chart-topping singles and fans spanning the globe, Nickelback boasts twelve consecutive sold-out world tours, playing to well over 10-million diehard and adoring fans.

Hollywood Undead

Johnny 3 Tears from Hollywood Undead believes someone should repeat the fourth grade. But who? Five Finger Death Punch

Gavin Rossdale and Brock chat about how Bush can play with almost any band on a lineup and how they adjust the set list to be juuuuust right for the heavy or softer crowds. They discuss the new album “The Art of Survival” available Oct 7th. And of course, a Rapid Fire with a little storytime interruption.

Forging ahead once more, BUSH wrote and recorded what would become The Art of Survival during 2022, reteaming with Erik Ron [Panic! At The Disco, Godsmack] who produced “Flowers On A Grave” and the title track for the group’s previous album, The Kingdom (2020), and collaborating once again on two tracks with film composer, musician, and producer Tyler Bates [300, Guardian of the Galaxy]. The central theme speaks to both the human spirit’s resiliency in the face of trials and tribulations as well as the band’s own enduring place as rock outliers.

Rossdale adds, “Instead of being mournful or self-piteous, this is about the success stories of humanity’s survival against the odds. People just find a way to push through. We’ve all obviously suffered in varying degrees. I think the nature of life is the art of survival. Everyone is being tested all of the time, but we find a way. In recent memory, we’ve made major strides and shown great resilience in the face of war, endless instances of racism, gender politics, a pandemic, and a melting pot of what we’ve experienced. For me, The Art of Survival encompasses all of this.”

THE ART OF SURVIVAL TRACKLISTING:

  7. Kiss Me I’m Dead
  8. Identity
  9. Creatures of the Fire
  10. Judas Is A Riot
  11. Gunfight
  12. 1000 Years

Hitting the road on one of the hottest rock tours of the summer, BUSH will join Alice In Chains and Breaking Benjamin for a massive North American jaunt, rolling through amphitheaters and sheds coast-to-coast for eight weeks.

I Prevail

Brian tells us how their latest release was ready when they decided it was.  How the band kinda ended up having to write a record sooner than they planned.  Also Wikipedia basically gives a grocery list when defining I Prevails Genre.  Brock and Brian do their best to pair that down.  Rapid Fire and of course a deep dive into the making of the new tunes on their latest release TRUE POWER.

TRUE POWER

Brian Burkheiser — Vocals
Eric Vanlerberghe — Vocals
Steven Menoian — Guitars/Bass
Dylan Bowman — Guitars
Gabe Helguera — Drums

Self-made, self-defined, and walking a path that’s entirely their own, I Prevail are ready to embrace their TRUE POWER (Fearless Records).

Since first joining forces in the metro Detroit area back in the summer of 2013, key songwriters Brian Burkheiser (vocals), Eric Vanlerberghe (vocals), and Steve Menoian (guitar) have made an immense impact on the world of alternative music. Involved in every aspect of their band from day one, they built a grassroots fanbase through DIY touring, as well as reaching out directly to listeners across the globe, before launching into the kind of meteoric rise that few artists ever experience.

“We were just these three kids wanting to write songs and live out our dream,” laughs Brian. “I was working at Dominos, Eric worked at IHOP, and initially we were in our rehearsal space for a year and a half getting this thing together while still working those jobs.”

From the hard-hitting, genre-defying introduction that was 2014’s Heart vs. Mind EP to 2016’s powerful debut album Lifelines, I Prevail quickly became one of rock’s biggest breakthrough bands. Then, 2019’s Trauma took things to a whole new level. Born from incredibly challenging and dark times, it was both a cathartic work of art and an unmistakable statement of intent — showing that no matter what, they’d be playing by their own rules.
“Trauma was a very reflective record,” Brian notes. “I’d struggled with a major vocal injury and had been wondering whether I wanted to continue doing this thing at all. Eric had also lost his best friend over that same time, so there was a lot of heartache behind it. After taking that trauma and figuring out how to channel it, you find this sense of newfound confidence and an ability to grow as a person: to become truly yourself.”

Rising to an arena level status and receiving two Grammy Nominations — for Best Rock Album for Trauma and Best Metal Performance for their single, "Bow Down" — I Prevail proved that they were built to last. To date, they’ve racked up more than 1.5 billion streams in the United States, drawn upwards of 350 million YouTube views, and saw their single, "Hurricane," top Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Airplay chart in 2020 — officially the top song on U.S. rock radio at the time.

What’s more, a number of their singles have been certified Gold and Platinum, including "Stuck In Your Head," "Alone," and "Scars," with the latter going Gold in Canada and Australia as well as the United States. They’ve also picked up more than 35 million Spotify plays on Illenium crossover track, "Feel Something," and have seen their collaborative version of "Every Time You Leave," featuring Delaney Jane, rise to #3 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart — proving that they can excel both within and beyond the scene they came up in.

Meanwhile in the live realm, they’ve become an ever-greater draw: approaching the very pinnacle of their genre. From owning the mainstage at top-tier global festivals such as Download, Rock Am Ring, and Nova Rock to stealing the show at Aftershock, Louder Than Life, and Self Help Fest closer to home, they’ve transcended all expectations of what a truly uncompromising, DIY band can achieve. In addition, they’ve spearheaded major domestic and international tours.

Along the way, the band earned critical accolades and respect from the press, with major features at NPR, The Hollywood Reporter, SPIN, Forbes, Billboard, Rock Sound, Chicago Tribune, and more. Ultimately, I Prevail and their “power” cannot be denied.

With the new full-length album, TRUE POWER, they’re running with that very energy: revealing a set of songs designed to stand the test of time and empower their fans like never before.

“We’ve been grinding non-stop on this record since the summer of 2020, and it really shows us as the band we want to be,” shares Brian. “We took a ‘no rules’ mentality to songwriting, the songs are as diverse as they’ve ever been. The first song on the record is called "There’s Fear In Letting Go," and that became a huge mantra for us. Yeah, it can be scary letting go of things, but it can also help you take back everything that’s yours: which is exactly what we’ve done on this album.”

With Trauma producer Tyler Smyth behind the board once again and Jon Eberhard collaborating on songwriting elements, they’re showcasing their true selves over these songs. This is still the I Prevail that the world knows and loves, but bigger, bolder and more unapologetic than ever before.

I Prevail explain, “This band was created by us, but for years we had a lot of snakes trying to get their hands in and mess with our process. This time around, we took over and did things the way we wanted. With the help of our label and manager, the recording process has never been this smooth. We’ve been empowered, and we want to empower our fans to go, ‘I can accomplish whatever I want to.’ We’ve gone from day jobs to playing huge shows, we’ve released our trauma and turned it into TRUE POWER, both personally and musically, so we’re out here showing that it’s possible.”

“This album is us going all-out, embracing a no-fucks-given approach, and I think it’s going to transcend what we’ve done before, to put us in a whole new space.”

Both rising to the peak of the alternative music world and making major, undeniable waves beyond it, I Prevail are kicking into a whole new gear.

Saint Asonia

Adam Gontier, front man for the band and Norwood High School Wall Of Honor inductee discusses how fun recently getting that recognition was as well as a deep dive into their new album "Introvert."  Find out how what started as working together on Mikes solo album evolved into a band that just released its third album.  A highly suspect guest appearance on the record and Rapid Fire Canadian style.

By turning inward, Saint Asonia amplify every element of their signature sound. Skyscraping hooks soar higher, while arena-ready rhythms rattle harder. The guitars cut deeper, and the lyrics resound louder than ever. The quartet—Adam Gontier [vocals, guitar], Mike Mushok [lead guitar], Cale Gontier [bass], and Cody Watkins [drums]—find power and strength on their aptly titled 2022 EP, Introvert [Spinefarm Records].

Saint Asonia initially united two hard rock luminaries under a new banner. Respectively, Adam and Mike had each reached stratospheric heights in Three Days Grace and Staind, toppling charts, packing venues, and selling millions of records. As such, their union captivated audiences worldwide. In the wake of their 2015 self-titled debut Saint Asonia, Loudwire christened the band its “Best New Artist” at the Loudwire Music Awards. The 2019 follow-up, Flawed Design, yielded the blockbuster single “The Hunted” [feat. Sully Erna of Godsmack], generating over 15 million Spotify streams. In a “4.5-out-of-5-star” review, New Noise Magazine declared, “Any fan of hard rock (whether they’ve listened in recently or not) should give Saint Asonia a spin.Plus, Loudwire applauded it as one of the “The 50 Best Rock Albums of the Year. Not to mention, they toured with everyone from Disturbed, Breaking Benjamin, and Seether to Alter Bridge and Mötley Crüe.

Unfortunately, Flawed Design never received a proper tour due to the Global Pandemic. However, the musicians buckled down and wrote what would become Introvert during the downtime.

“The title was fitting with the way the songs were written,” observes Adam. “We wrote and recorded individually. It’s a weird situation to make a record and not be in the same room as your band. I felt like an Introvert when I was working on these songs.”

This time around, they recorded with producer Anton Delost [Cleopatrick, Seaway, Hollow Coves] outside of Toronto. The producer injected a fresh perspective into the project as did recently welcomed drummer Cody (who played in Art of Dying with Cale). Meanwhile, Mike recorded remotely from his home studio in Connecticut.

“We had a blast with Anton,” Adam goes on. “He played a big part in the sonic changes. It’s a little different for us, but it’s still pretty heavy. He understood what we were hoping to accomplish. It’s Saint Asonia.”

The guys initially teased out this phase with a heavy and haunting take on The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights,” tallying millions of streams. However, they properly introduce Introvert with the single “Above It All.” Airy electronics brush up against clean guitar as Adam declares, “It’s time to take a stand and save our lives. A chugging verse gives way to an irresistible hook punctuated by a hummable guitar lead.

“It’s the first one I actually wrote,” he recalls. “I wrote it about standing up and paying attention to what you’re told to do as a society and then making your own decisions. You’re not necessarily acting or reacting as people want you to. We’re all told so many things about what’s right or wrong. There was a lot of misinformation. ‘Above It All’ is about making the right decision for yourself.”

Then, there’s “Chew Me Up” [feat. Johnny Stevens of Highly Suspect]. Johnny’s bluesy timbre serves as the perfect counterpoint to Adam as the slow burning track builds towards a catharsis with teeth.

“We’re big fans of Highly Suspect, so we were really excited to have Johnny on the song,” he goes on. “Our styles are a little bit different, but he did his thing. It turned out amazing. Lyrically, it’s about cancel culture. People are influenced by things online and try to be who they’re not on social media platforms. There’s a lot of pressure. The song is a realization it doesn’t matter. The internet and social media can chew you up pretty quickly and spit you back out before you even know it.”

Elsewhere, “Left Behind” culminates on a scorching guitar solo, while “Bite The Bullet” hinges on a thick bass line and candid lyricism.

“My dad passed away about a year ago, and ‘Bite The Bullet’ hits home,” he admits. “He always used to use the phrase ‘Bite The Bullet’ when I was growing up. The song remembers him and how he told me you can’t change things that are out of your control. It’s a good reminder of my dad.”

In the end, Saint Asonia connect closer than ever on Introvert.

“This band means a lot to me,” Adam leaves off. “It’s been an incredible outlet, and it’s become a family. I love the guys and the freedom we have to create. I couldn’t ask for a better situation. I hope people dig it and love the music. If you relate to it and drive down the road blasting it, that’s the most I could ask for.”
